"Overall, O liked this week and I actually had fun.  It was a very holy week and it just dominated.  I needed a week like this."

"Coming into this week I had absolutely no idea what to expect.  I couldn't imagine that this week could go any better.  I've been given the chance to learn a lot about myself and my relationship with God.  Awestruck gives everyone a great chance to do that." Add a comment

Christ Follower, Not Just Admirer PDF Print E-mail

This is really unorganized. But oh well. I never have to take another English class. :)

If nothing good is growing in your garden, weeds will.

And even if you clear those weeds away and it looks all pretty and clean on top, if you don't get the roots, they'll just keep growing back.

Even though this week we were just trying to serve others and the community, God gave us so much more. I gained friendships, got closer to old friends, grew in my faith, got to worship Him in His BEAUTIFUL creation, and saw some really cool things when God worked through us.

And isn't that just like our God? Even when we're just serving Him and not looking for anything in return, we receive so much more than we ever give Him.

But especially when we're not serving Him, not even thinking about Him, totally off and sinning and going off the path, He's there and He loves us and He puts people in our lives to shake us and show us our mistakes. He seeks us out. He wants us back. "While we were still sinners, Christ died for us." Romans 5:8. What an awesome God. Add a comment

Fellowship Amidst Chaos PDF Print E-mail

The theme of Awestruck 2008 was "to be". At first I didn't know what kinds of things to expect. I was actually mostly in it for the social part and the activities (Guitar Hero and Dodgeball). But i was "Awestruck" by what I experienced. Dan Lee's message about being listeners, laborers, and lovers made me realize that we all need to stop and examine our lives. That got me thinking, and the awesome bands helped reinforce Dan Lee's message. Their lyrics really hit home, and for that weekend I felt closer to God than I ever had before. Being in a fellowship of so many Christians my age in this time of chaos helped me remember that you are never alone. God is with you, and he places the right people in your life at the right time. That is truly something to be awestruck about.

An Amazing Experience PDF Print E-mail

I just got back from an amazing week. My youth group went to help out with Project Awestruck, and it was the greatest experience. I wasn't sure about how it would go. I mean, sleeping on the floor in a gym at night, and spending all day doing work projects? I was hesitant. But once the week started, it was amazing!

The first work day, I was at a nursing home called the Waters of Seymour. We were suposed to socialize with the old people and help them play bingo in the afternoon. I was assigned to spend time with an old man named Ray. Ray was in a wheelchair and could not communicate much as all. He was trapped inside his body, even though mentally, he was still normal. I had no idea what to do. Ray didn't want to look at picture books or have me read to him. Blowing bubbles wasn't even interesting to him. So just messing around, I blew up a balloon and started tossing it around. Ray raised his arm and hit the balloon back to me! He wanted to play catch! We had so much fun playing with the balloon. A couple other old ladies wheeled up to us, and we all hit the balloon back and forth in a circle. It was a simple game, but it made their day.  Add a comment

Amazing and Refreshing PDF Print E-mail

The Awestruck Festival was amazing and refreshing. The servant events gave a sense of meaning and put the lives of the youth who were involved in perspective to how to live their lives as Christ's hands and feet in today's world. The bands were spirit-filled with a message of hope that today's youth so desperately need to hear. The unique atmosphere of the concerts were personable and could never be duplicated. I was blessed to see the youth and adults not only grow in their relationships with each other but more importantly in their God given faith during the worship services and speakers. In the months returning from Awestruck I have seen faith in action that was ignited by attending the awesome experience/servant event. The whole festival is a great building block for youth groups to see God is active in our lives everyday, leaving His traces of abundant grace on us. All of my youth are still excited, telling their stories, and cannot wait until the next Awestruck Festival.
